About the formats

Word Word document (DOCX)

Microsoft Word's format since 2007, and the standard for documents you edit and send back and forth. It opens in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice, but can look different on each, so finished documents usually go out as PDF.

Markdown Markdown text

Plain text with simple marks for headings, lists and links, like # Title and **bold**. Used by GitHub, notes apps like Obsidian and Notion, documentation sites, and as the easiest text to give to AI tools.
