Can I convert songs bought on iTunes?
Songs bought since 2009 have no copy protection and convert fine. Old protected .m4p files can't be converted.
Will the MP3 sound worse?
Not noticeably. Converting between lossy formats loses a little, but at this quality it's very hard to hear.
